Does the name of the entity contain the words "national", "N.A.", "federal bank", "federal savings bank", "FSB", or "federal credit union"?
Commercial banks having the word "National" or using "N.A." (national association) in their name are regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of Currency.
Savings banks, and savings and loan associations having the word "Federal" or using FSB (federal savings bank), FSA (federal savings association), FA (federal association) or FSLA (federal savings and loan association) in their name are regulated by the Office of Thrift Supervision.
Credit unions having the word "federal" in their name are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration.
